Villa de Cerf, Cerf Island, Seychelles

View of Mahe from Cerf Island

Cerf island is located 4 km off of the northeast coast of Mahe. To get to Cerf island, the accommodation in which you are staying provides transfers or else there are day trips which visit Cerf which usually include a beach BBQ as part of the day trip. We got a small boat from Eden island to Villa de Cerf which took just under 10 minutes.

Cerf island is a small paradise with less than 100 inhabitants. The island has a small abandoned church St. James Chapel and a couple of guesthouses, a larger resort and small boutique hotels as well as two restaurants. There is a hike to a viewpoint whereby you go over the small mountain to reach the other side of the island. You can kayak for free with kayaks provided by Villa de Cerf and go around the island to explore it.

Upon arriving to Villa de Cerf you can see that there is some erosion to the beachfront but otherwise, there is a sandy beach amongst the seaweed. The manager, Rita, warmly greeted us and introduced us to the villa, and our lovely room. We had a very big room, with double bed and single bed for our child which we paid a supplement for as well as travel cot for our youngest. The bathroom is also very large, with a jacuzzi style bathtub. The rooms are impeccably clean and are cleaned daily to a high standard. We stayed on the main floor, and we had nice garden furniture under the shade, with views directly over the pool, sea and Mahe.

The property has a nice big pool, pool table, and garden to enjoy your stay. The views over to Mahe island are picturesque, and we appreciated seeing the island lit up at night. Each meal is freshly prepared by the chef on site. We enjoyed the home cooking and dining under the stars.

Cerf island is not big, there are no paved roads, only small pathways between the villas. We tried trekking the jungle path to the other side of the island, although it was too overgrown to go all the way.

Villa de Cerf is as relaxing a getaway you can ask for, as it is a very simple, laid back island.
